Musicians Hotline

When you are a beginner at the Musicians Hotline, still waiting for your chance to breakthrough, it is sometimes very hard not to let your dreams go and find yourself a more stable, better paid job. Like with most careers in various fields of art, not all professional Musicians can become successful and often have to look for employment in other places. No matter how talented the Musician actually is, he still has to eat and pay his bills. And great careers are seldom built overnight.

All these young Musicians at the Musicians Hotline dream of stardom and everything that it allows them to experience: a greater artistic freedom, performing in front of huge audiences and in best music halls in the world. For true artists money is simply something that gives financial independence and stability, it gives all Musicians the luxury of focusing only on their music rather than on whether they will be able to pay for their plane tickets.

When it comes to Jazz Musicians, the way to the top is even harder. For Pop Musicians at the Musicians Hotline it is a single song that can make them rich and famous for the rest of their lives. Music history has seen more than a lot of such cases. But for the Musicians Hotline, things look far more complicated than this. They cannot count on the support of powerful media, there is no MTV to promote them. No classical music television station can ever hope to win audiences as big as it’s popular counterparts.

The classical music industry is far less glamorous and popular among the masses than any other field of the huge domain of music. Young Musicians often have to struggle to be able to continue their careers, practising for hours every day, travelling from competition to competition, from Vienna to Tokyo to New York, without any time left for themselves. It takes a lot of strength and self-discipline to live such a life. Especially since one can never know for certain whether he becomes successful one day.

Fortunately, there are more and more foundations that try to help young Musicians who decide to sacrifice so much in order to enter the world of professional performers of classical music. Without the support of patrons and sponsors, there is little hope for dazzling new talents to emerge. Still, it is love of music and art that makes these young people go on. Without that, even greatest talent might not make it under the pressure of present-day reality.
